Just a quick thought today.
…
Did you enjoy that?
I have a number of different pictures and items on the walls around my study. I have a painting of Timisoara (Romania) that was given to me by all my friends in the EBF Youth and Children’s Committee when I left my role as Chair. They all signed the back. It means a lot to me.
There is a cross that was given to me by Svjetlana Mraz from Croatia.
There is are two icons (!!!!) One is of Rublev’s Trinity, which reminds me of the companionship at the heart of God and to be someone who offers that companionship in the faith to others. The second is of Mary and Jesus, which was given to me by my Dad, and which reminds me of the wonder of the incarnation.
There’s a picture of the face of Jesus we found in a cooked carrot (okay it’s just a face but given the furore that emerges every time someone sees something resembling Jesus in toast or clouds we thought that maybe he was in a carrot too. It reminds me to smile!
There is a reminder of the verse I was ‘given’ when I was baptised as a believer aged 13:
Keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
(2 Timothy 4:5)
And there’s a copy of St Augustine’s prayer to the Holy Spirit:
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen.
I am a Christian who is a Baptist by conviction. But I think my walls may reveal that I am finding truth about following Jesus in all sorts of unexpected places! Where have you found it recently? Where will you find it today?
