This has to be a quick bloggage, as I am writing it in a coffee break between sessions at the BUGB Ministers Refresher Conference in Swanwick. I think at the very least we all ought to be given a packet of Refreshers for the Conference and then run a sweepstake to see how many Refreshers will be sucked (not crunched) during each session.
So far I have been blessed by an honest and encouraging session by Jon Stannard, and had all sorts of connections made in my mind about how we respond to the athiestic / naturalistic philosophy that many people seem happy to accept without question and which is eroding the credibility of the Christian message – thanks so much to Anna Robbins.
Now, don’t make any connections between the last paragraph and this one, it is a non sequitor. I think I thought of it because of the use of the word ‘bloggage’. We had to have our toilets repaired recently. The flushing mechanisms in both went at about the same time. While replacing components in one of them the plumber noticed a hairline crack and mentioned it to me by way of a warning. I mentioned it to the person in our church who is responsible for maintenance of the premises and he came and had a look. Sure enough there was a hairline crack in the cistern.
He took the cistern lid away to try to find a new one that would match the colour of the bathroom suite. This left the mechanism exposed. Sally had a look at it one day and thought that the hairline crack looked unusual. So she felt it and rubbed it, and the hair came away in her hand!
D’oh!!!
I guess for all of us there’s a lesson there – we need other people to help us see things differently (which is where the link comes in to Jon and Anna!).
Blessings
