we three king…

We have created our own church Christmas card this year. We ran a competition for anyone in our church to design the card and had some fantastic entries.

These are the entries from children in our church. I think they are all brilliant and would love to have had all of them. Indeed someone suggested that we do it earlier next year and sell the cards to people in the church. That has promise! This year, however, following a selection of comments from a range of people in the church, we are using Thomas’s design for the card that we send to everyone in the church. We also have a few extras that we will give to the staff in shops in the street around us.

The creativity and imagination that was shown is wonderful. Three King Penguins?! Rebecca has the sort of sense of humour that really appeals to me. All of the cards, in their different ways, point us towards the reason for this season. And that is all that God asks of us – to use our talents, imagination, ideas and humour to reveal more of the joy of Christmas to those around us.

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

“In honour of this holy season,” Saint Peter said, “You must each possess something that symbolizes  Christmas to get into heaven.”

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. “It represents a candle,” he said. “You may pass through the pearly gates,” Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, “They’re bells.” Saint Peter said, “You may pass through the pearly gates.”

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women’s glasses.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, “And just what do those symbolize?”

The man replied, “They’re Carol’s.”
