Unexpected blessing

Today I was blessed by a friend. I was blessed by their friendship and trust in me. And I was blessed because they told me that they read my bloggages. And I was blessed because they said that they had read this morning’s and it reminded them of some artwork they had.

And I was blessed because they kindly, generously and thoughtfully gave it to me. It is now sitting above my desk in my study to remind me of God’s laugh and smile.

So, to my friend, ‘Thank you’.

And to the rest of you, read this (you may have to click on it to enlarge it) and…

Be blessed, be a blessing.2014-02-07 14.11.55

  1. I’ll never forget a weekday Lenten service I attended at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia, almost 40 years ago. The speaker was Dr. Elton Trueblood, and 8th generation Quaker and a former professor at Earlham College in Indiana. Dr. Trueblood was the author of several excellent books, including one which I have read, “The Humor of Jesus.” During his sermon, he mentioned that, of all the letters he had received about that book (Most of which were positive) the comment he remembered most was, “Jesus didn’t laugh. He wept.”

I wonder if the person who sent that message to Dr. Trueblood ever realized how wrong he/she was.
