principles?

I have a decision to make. I have been approached by a Christian publisher to write a series of daily devotions based on my blog. That is amazing. (I can’t say which publisher but I don’t think they will be asked to join the TUC.) Apparently someone who works there is a regular blogmate and showed it to the publishing department and one of the commissioning editors liked it.

The problem is that they want me to leave out the jokes. My instinct is to say ‘no’ on principle. The jokes may be corny but they represent part of my outlook on life and it feels wrong to leave them out. But am I being stubborn unnecessarily? When does ‘taking a stand’ become ‘being silly’? For most of the time that is obvious, but when there’s not a cigarette paper’s gap between the two, how do you decide?

Yesterday we had some men arrive to rehang the door on our new fridge. They did not have the parts and suggested that the best way of doing it was to tell the shop we bought it from that it was damaged so they would send us a new fridge. They told me that I would have to back up their story and I told them that I was not prepared to lie because I am a Christian. The men were unimpressed because it meant more work for them to order the parts and come back.Taking a stand or silly? We now have to wait another fortnight for the correct parts to be delivered…

What stands have you taken on the basis of your faith?

No joke today. On principle.

    >No jokes? But Jesus told jokes, well kind of… planks in eyes, camels through needles…I think the jokes can add to the thinking element rather than detract.oooh – your 'word verfication' says bookour is that prophetic? 😉
